Created in 2000 to take advantage of the synergy of uniting several interdisciplinary units, today the Mark O. Hatfield School of Government at Portland State University is a vibrant, high energy institution with unparalleled opportunities for students and faculty.

We offer a highly-ranked multidisciplinary education that spans political science, public administration, and criminal justice. In addition, the School draws significantly from its five institutes, one center, and other special programs to conduct research and offer classes specializing in a broad array of disciplines including executive leadership, nonprofit management, criminal justice policy, tribal government, US-Turkish affairs, policy consensus building, electronic government, and environmental/natural resource policy studies.

With a dedication to public service, the Hatfield School provides its students with substantial flexibility in tailoring their education, be it for those just starting their public sector careers ... or those already working who wish to enhance their knowledge or refresh their skills. Each student can design a program to meet their needs --ranging from in-service coursework -- to certificates for those with a focused program interest--to 13 formal degree programs at the baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral level. But our dedication goes beyond teaching; our talented students and faculty are actively engaged in public service projects around our state, the nation, and the world.

Whether you are a current or potential student, teacher, partner, client, or friend of the Hatfield School, I extend to you a warm welcome and invitation to become acquainted with our innovative programs.
